The Highways office has 60+ staff who are supported by my clients extensive in-house Environmental and Geotechnical resource from within the Group.
My Client is currently working as Designer to Contractor Laing O'Rourke on the ECI contract A453 M1 Junction 24 – Nottingham, value £87m, for the Highways Agency. This is a prestigious contract for my client which in conjunction with their ECI experience on the A1 Morpeth to Felton improvement, value £85m, again as Designer to Laing O'Rourke, paves the way for other major highway opportunities in both England and Wales.
The Design Project Manager position relates to the A453 commission which is programmed for Draft Orders November 2007, Public Inquiry September 2008 with completion of construction December 2011. The role on this project is therefore for a period of up to 4 years, but within this period and beyond to assist in the winning of and ultimately the management of similar major highway projects for both Government and Local Authorities.
My Client is therefore looking for a chartered highway engineer with significant experience in the management and coordination of the design of major highway schemes. My Client will negotiate a competitive salary with an attractive benefits package for the right candidate.

Role:
Primary Duties

oMain point of contact with Client Project Manager.
oTo undertake work of a technical nature that falls within own ability and competence
oBudgetary and financial control
oProduce effective written reports
oTo actively pursue professional training and development and motivate and encourage the professional development of others
oEstablish effective working relationship with clients and supply chain
oFoster good relationships with all external parties to enhance the reputation of the company
oAssist in business development, preparation of expression of interest and tenders.
oFoster development and ensure good working relationship of project team members
Typical Activities
oProvide the team with guidance on best methods and practices to meet technical and project requirements
oPrepare and maintain Project Quality Plan.
oTechnical audit of work undertaken by design team.
oResponsible for accuracy of estimated scheme cost and ensure project Risk Register is regularly reviewed.
oOverall management of statutory process and production of contract documentation.
oTo agree and monitor staffing requirements including co-ordination and management of supply chain needs
oAttend all meetings as required
oAssist in the selection and interview of staff.
oComply with company management systems.
oTo ensure relevant Health and Safety and other regulations are implemented
oTo undertake risk assessments for staff undertaking job related activities; ensure these are recorded and reviewed annually.
Work Environment:
oThe job is office based but will require visits to clients and site as required.
Skills:
oComputer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
oGood communication and written skills.
oExperience of MX Professional and Autocad an advantage
oMS Projects preferred.
Qualifications:
oDegree in Civil Engineering. Chartered Civil Engineer.
oManagement of design of major highway projects for UK Government Departments.
oA thorough knowledge of the Statutory Process (including Orders), Specification and DMRB standards is a prerequisite.
oKnowledge of the Highways Agency procurement strategy an advantage
oExperience of highway design and build schemes an advantage
oExperience of environmentally sensitive schemes an advantage
oExperience of public consultation and public inquiry an advantage
oComprehensive knowledge of Management Systems
