Oh, Yeah, Rock It!

My editing experiment consists of Yello's Oh, Yeah track paired with the video source, Rockit's music vid (Herbie Hancock's composition and keyboards) directed by duo Godley & Creme. This music vid featured bizarre robot-like kinetic sculptures by Jim Whiting. Rockit was among the earliest videos to feature blacks on MTV and garnered five MTV Video Music Awards in 1984, including Best Concept Video and Best Special Effects. MTV's reluctance to feature black artists at the time was demonstrated by Herbie Hancock, on keyboards and vocoder, appearing only as an image on a television which is smashed on the sidewalk in the closing shot. Despite the slight, Hancock became an electronic funkster and one of the best-selling jazz musicians in history.

The "Weapon of Choice" video won six MTV awards in 2001.[2] As one of the video's MTV "Moonmen" was for Best Choreography, Walken became a Video Music Award winner. The clip was also cited as the best video of all time in April 2002, in a list of the top 100 videos of all time that was compiled from a music industry survey by music TV channel VH1. The video was filmed in the lobby at the Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles. Walken liked the idea so much he did not want money for his part in the video. He got the inspiration for certain dance moves by observing raccoons.
