Common symptoms of a faulty Air Flow Meter or MAF are:

Poor idling and sometimes you have to give your car a rev before you can pull away
Reduced drivability, cutting out when the engine speed drops (approaching bends, roundabouts etc)
Loss of Power, turbo lag on turbo applications
Excessive Black Smoke on diesel applications
Reduced fuel economy and lumpy running
Can feel like you are hitting a brick wall like a rev limiter etc

A diagnostic machine will sometimes point out the Air flow meter is faulty, however, not always. Some cars may also get an engine management warning light on your dash board.

On most vehicles its possible to test if your mass air flow sensor is faulty, simply by diagnosing it.

Replacing a faulty Air flow sensor will certainly pay for itself with the increased fuel economy you will get and cure many of the problems listed above!

Virtually every manufacturer and vehicle will have a different Air flow meter part number, so please advise the information and application list below.


THE BEST WAY TO BUY AN AIR FLOW METER IS TO GET THE NUMBER FROM YOUR EXISTING UNIT.

YOU CAN GET THE MANUFACTURES PART NUMBER FROM YOUR DEALER, IF YOU CAN’T GET TO YOUR AIR FLOW METER

IT WILL USUALLY be something like 0280 217 121 or 5WK9600 etc, the number is inscribed on to the black plastic part of the housing.
