Senior Planning Officer
The Opportunity...
Senior Planning Officer required to join a busy planning team, advising other staff as necessary, and generally to contribute to the provision of a comprehensive Development Control service using your specialist skills and overall knowledge of planning and development control issues.
The main aspects of the role are:
* Under the overall responsibility of the Head of Planning and Development, to advise and supervise other staff as necessary, so as to deal with all non-administrative aspects of handling planning, listed building and advertisement applications from receipt through to the drafting of recommendations to Committee.
* To provide advice and deal with planning enquiries from elected Members, Parish Councils and members of the public and to negotiate with applicants on all aspects of development proposals prior to the submission of applications.
* To act as case officer for larger/more complex applications, to negotiate amendments as necessary, and to prepare and present reports to meetings of the appropriate Council Committee.
* To prepare statements for planning appeals and on occasions to present evidence at Hearings and Public Inquiries.
* To assist and direct the Enforcement Officer in his/her duties so as to ensure the satisfactory monitoring and control of any contravention of planning legislation.
* To assist and direct the Conservation Officer in his/her duties so as to ensure the delivery of a satisfactory conservation service.
* To prepare reports and attend meetings of the appropriate Council decision making body (Committee/Cabinet/Scrutiny Panel), and to represent the Council at outside meetings as necessary.
* To undertake any other relevant duties of a similar nature and level for the effective operation of the service as may be required from time to time.
