An excellent opportunity for an experienced Buyer or Product Manger to join a successful and expanding, internet retail company within the leisure goods and garden products sector.
A detailed analysis of the role is as follows:
Product Range Planning
-Support the Product Director in defining the Product Range by category and type of product
-Ensure there is adequate choice of each product type and price points to offer our customer base.
- Keep up to date with the latest trends and new product offerings, and put forward suggestions for the development of our product range.
- Planning and implementing the introduction of new products to the range, ensuring website marketing is timely and attractive
- Planning and implementing the introduction of any new initiatives, promotions and new product ranges
Product Pricing and Margin Management
- Setting retail product prices for new products, ensuring these are competitive
- Checking the prices of all slow moving items to ensure the products are not over-priced, amending the prices to be competitive where appropriate
-Ensuring all product purchased achieves no less than the minimum target margins for that category of products
- Set the price for disposal of products to be discontinued
Product Sales Forecast and Management
-Develop, maintain and review sales forecast by category and product type taking into account seasonal fluctuations and any planned promotions that will be run on the website.
- Developing a sales forecast for each new product introduced, which will determine initial quantities to purchase, and at the same time the re-ordering levels will be set.
- Develop a product trend analysis report, which will be reviewed on a weekly basis, to review products that are selling over-forecast to identify where we may need an order expedited or an increase in quantity added, etc.
- Plan and implement the disposal of discontinued products
Purchasing and Supplier Management
- Develop and maintain a pro-active purchasing and re-ordering process, monitoring stock-holding and ensuring over and under stock situations are kept to a minimum
- All purchases over a specified level in value need to be counter-signed before being actioned
-For all new products the packaging and carriage implications must be checked out prior to any purchase
- Develop good working relationships with all our suppliers
-Develop and maintain comprehensive information on all suppliers detailing products, prices, minimum quantities, box quantities, lead times, etc.
Returns and Supplier Claims
-Monitor all faulty product rates and liaise with the Supplier for claims and ensure all claims are processed and credits received.
- When a high returns rate is indicated: Inform the Supplier and agree the action required
- Where appropriate implement a cull of existing stock
Ideally, the successful candidate will have:
- Experience of purchasing products for a seasonal business is essential
- Experience of purchasing gardening or leisure products is desirable
- Knowledge of the entire product life cycle
- Previous success with a direct to consumer business
